EVERY MOMENT COUNTS

RARES supports the recovery and restoration of endangered animal species through work both in the wild and in captivity. Our work is underpinned by science. In particular we support the use of Population and Habitat Viability Assessment (PHVA) which allows selection of the best options for each animal species.

Action is the antidote to despair

HUSBANDRY

We recognise the importance of accurate information being available to support the recovery of threatened species. RARES supports the development of husbandry guidelines for species held in captivity and makes the guidelines available on our website.

We are happy to receive additional Husbandry Guidelines and Manuals. Please get in touch if you have guidelines to share.

Husbandry guidelines are also valuable in providing information for Population and Habitat Viability Assessments.

Please note that the guidelines and manuals listed are to provide guidance and as such may not be applicable to every situation.

We hope that there will be fireflies and glow-worms at night to guide you and butterflies in hedges and forests to greet you.

We hope that your dawns will have an orchestra of bird song and that the sound of their wings and the opalescence of their colouring will dazzle you.

We hope that there will still be the extraordinary varieties of creatures sharing the land of the planet with you to enchant you and enrich your lives as they have done for us.

We hope that you will be grateful for having been born into such a magical world.
